Rian Johnson defends Last Jedi's new Force powers

This article contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but you have definitely seen it by now... right?

Despite the fact that new additions to a franchise should exist to expand and deepen the mythology, some Star Wars fans are very upset that characters are (gasp) doing things that they didn't do in the originals!

Even though The Force had awoken in the previous film, there are those who can't get their heads around the usage of astral projection techniques (and don't even get them STARTED on the 'flying').

Director Rian Johnson was tagged in one Twitter debate and, pretty much the same way Luke Skywalker did, magically appeared and told one unhappy viewer that everything he just said... was wrong.

"I should stay out of this but..." he wrote, "were ANY aspects of force use in the OT (force grabbing objects, force ghosts, even the jedi mind trick) explicitly 'set up' before they happened? I'll take my answer off air."

Johnson's logic STILL wasn't enough to calm the salty fans, who were still whinging about the power coming out of the blue as a last-minute resolution, to which we say: have you guys never SEEN Dragon Ball Z or literally any similar show?

Eleventh-hour superpowers (especially when they are coupled with self-sacrifice) are part of the fun!

Luckily Johnson says he isn't offended by people debating the direction his film has taken the franchise, which is good because when it comes to certain people, this isn't a battle he can win.
