RI unemployment rate stays at 10.4 percent

Rhode Island jobless rate unchanged in November after 6 months of decline

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The unemployment rate in Rhode Island remained unchanged in November after six straight months of decline.

The state Department of Labor and Training said Thursday that the jobless rate was 10.4 percent in November, the same as the month before.

The number of Rhode Island jobs was down 200, to 457,100, from revised October estimates. But the number of employed Rhode Island residents was up 1,500 over the month, to 506,200.

The size of the labor force was also up 1,400, to 564,800. Officials say the workforce is at its highest level since February 2011.

The U.S. unemployment rate in November was 7.7 percent.

A year ago at this time, the jobless rate in Rhode Island was 11.1 percent.
