Kim Jong-Un’s surprise trip to China this week has received widespread praise in Beijing – but it’s not the North Korean leader who is receiving all the applause.

Instead, Kim’s ‘mysterious’ wife Ri Sol-ju is receiving widespread plaudits after she attended the North Korean dictator’s meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

Ri is seldom seen at international events, but her appearance has turned her into a star in China.

Here’s everything we know about her.

How old is she, and how did she meet Kim Jong-Un?

Little is known about Ri Sol-ju’s background, although her marriage to Kim was officially announced by North Korean state media on July 25 2012.

Her age is a similar mystery, although experts say that she is likely to be between 28 and 33.

Do the couple have any children?

Yes, it’s believed that Ri gave birth to the couple’s first child in 2010.

In late 2012, it was subsequently reported that Ri was pregnant once more. The following year, former NBA star Dennis Rodman made one of many visits to North Korea, and claimed that the couple had welcomed a daughter called Ju-ae.

A third child of unknown gender is believed to have been born last year.

Ri Sol-ju is reportedly receiving plaudits in China, and it’s believed to be a mixture of her sharp sartorial sense and apparent willingness to engage in North Korean diplomacy.

‘Ri Sol-ju is indeed beautiful and amiable. I can tell she would be good at ‘first-lady diplomacy’, better than Kim’s sister”, one user wrote on the Chinese equivalent of Twitter.

She was also praised for her ‘conservative yet fashionable’ attire, opting to wear a camel coloured jacket in the welcoming ceremony, which was paired with a midi skirt and a butterfly brooch.

Others said she was “as pretty as Song Hye-kyo”, a popular actress in China.
