RI Senate to vote on Chafee's pick to lead EDC

Rhode Island Senate to vote on EDC director nominee; Valois served as EDC chief in 1990s

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The Rhode Island Senate is poised to vote on Gov. Lincoln Chafee's pick to head the state's economic development agency.

The Senate is scheduled to vote Tuesday on nomination of Marcel Valois for executive director of the Economic Development Corp.

Valois served once before in the same role in the 1990s under former Gov. Lincoln Almond.

He is vice president of the Economic Development Foundation of Rhode Island and a former chief operating office and area vice president for Penske Automotive Group. Valois also served as an executive at the Blackstone Valley Development Foundation and director of planning and development for the city of Woonsocket.

The nomination of Valois received a unanimous endorsement last week in the Senate Commerce Committee.
