RI Senate to vote on 4 of Chafee's appointees to economic development board

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The board overseeing economic development in Rhode Island could soon have some new members if state lawmakers approve four of Gov. Lincoln Chafee's nominees.

The state Senate is scheduled to vote on the appointees to the Economic Development Corp. board on Wednesday.

The nominees are Rhode Island College President Nancy Carriuolo; Roland Fiore, president of South County Sand & Gravel Co.; Shannon Brawley, executive director of the Rhode Island Nursery and Landscape Association and state AFL-CIO President George Nee, whose earlier term on the board has expired.

A fifth nominee, Jason Kelley, awaits Senate confirmation.

The EDC has struggled with vacancies following its failed investment in former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's video game company, 38 Studios. The agency is still without an executive director.
