RI Senate leader vows to do more to help economy
RI Senate President releases report outlining ideas for improving state's business climate
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The leader of the Rhode Island's Senate says state leaders haven't done enough to spur the state's lackluster economy but says a new report could offer some help.
Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed released the latest report on the state's economic problems Tuesday.
The report compiles a long list of rankings that consistently put Rhode Island at the bottom of the list for employment, business regulation and tax burden.
The report also lists some recommendations including better workforce training and regulatory reform that Paiva Weed says will be the basis for legislation.
Rhode Island's 10.4 percent unemployment rate is the second highest in the nation.
The Newport Democrat says it's time to "recognize that action is needed" and that boosting the state's economy is her top priority.
