RI lawmakers propose another minimum wage hike
Some RI lawmakers propose raising minimum wage to $8.25 an hour; last increase was in Jan.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Some Rhode Island lawmakers are calling to raise the state's minimum wage, just a month after the last increase.
Legislation reviewed by a panel of lawmakers this week would increase the wage from $7.75 to $8.25 an hour beginning Jan. 1 of next year.
Under the proposal the wage would be automatically adjusted for inflation each year beginning in 2015.
Lawmakers voted last year to increase the wage by 35 cents. It was the first increase since 2007.
The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour.
