SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) — Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY'-fee) says the state will review what happened at the University of Rhode Island, where a report of an active shooter on campus proved to be unfounded.
Chafee says in a written statement released by his office that he is relieved and grateful that no one was seriously injured Thursday.
He says the incident offers an important opportunity to review emergency operations and that they will take a close look at how the serious and potentially dangerous situation was handled.
URI was on lockdown for about 2 ½ hours.
Police say it started in a lecture hall when people believed they heard someone say they had a gun. Police say an investigation revealed there was no gun or active shooter at any time.
