RI fire departments mourn the loss of Providence firefighter at age 41

PROVIDENCE – Fire departments in Rhode Island are mourning the death of a Providence firefighter who has died at age 41.

Cipriano Illiano served for the past 10 years with the Providence Fire Department and was a Tiverton firefighter from 2010 to 2013, according to social media posts.

"We deeply regret to announce the untimely passing of Brother Firefighter Cipriano Illiano," Providence Fire Fighters Local 799 said in a Facebook post. "Cip was a proud father and passionate supporter of the Special Olympics."

"Cip was loved and will be missed by many," the union said. "We extend our sincere condolences to his family and all who knew him during this incredibly difficult time."

Illiano lived in Coventry and worked as a border patrol agent before beginning his firefighting career, according to his LinkedIn page.

The Tiverton Fire Department said, "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Illiano family, his friends, and our fellow brothers and sisters of the Providence Fire Department as they mourn the loss of their loved one. He will be truly missed by so many."

The Providence firefighters union said it would announce funeral arrangements when they become available.
