Rhys Hoskins celebrates home run with Philadelphia Eagles tribute

Philadelphia Phillies star Rhys Hoskins had himself quite the day at the plate against the Pirates on Saturday. Going up against one of baseball’s early surprise teams, Hoskins went 2-3 at the plate with a three-run homer, an RBI single and a walk.

And somehow those at-bats weren’t the most fun thing Hoskins did at the ballpark during a 6-2 victory over Pittsburgh.

While rounding the bases after knocking a go-ahead home run in the sixth inning, Hoskins pulled out a new celebration with first base coach Jose Flores. With Flores playing quarterback, Hoskins mimicked a play-action pass as he jogged towards second.

We’re guessing since no one tackled him before he reached home the Phillies have a case for putting up another six on the scoreboard. In fact, it’s almost shocking this didn’t break some sort of unwritten rule in baseball.

Beyond all that, this seems to be another case of some brotherly love in Philadelphia.

The city’s Super Bowl Champion Eagles made a habit out of celebrating touchdowns by pretending to hit home runs in the end zone last season and it was glorious.

Hopefully this blossoms into a mini-rivalry with each team attempting to imitate the other’s sport best. It’s not like touchdowns and home runs aren’t already perfect complements for each other. All the Phillies need to do to take this to the next level is figure out a way to run the Philly Special without starting a bench-clearing brawl.

We wouldn’t be upset if this ushered in a new era of home run celebrations, either. Not that bat flips are a tired act, but there’s so much more room for creativity and it’s time we embrace it.
