RHP Jimenez gets minor league deal with Rockies

Right-handed pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez might get another chance to pitch for the Colorado Rockies after the club signed him to a minor league deal on Wednesday.

Jimenez, an All-Star for Colorado in 2010 who finished third in the National League Cy Young Award voting that year after going 19-8 with a 2.88 ERA, received an invitation to the Rockies' major league spring training.

He spent parts of six seasons in Colorado from 2006-11, compiling a 56-45 record with a 3.66 ERA and 773 strikeouts in 851 innings over 138 appearances (137 starts).

Among the Rockies' all-time pitching leaders, Jimenez, 36, ranks first in ERA, second in strikeouts and fifth in wins and innings.

He threw the only no-hitter in Rockies history, beating the Atlanta Braves 4-0 on April 17, 2010. Though he issued six walks, Jimenez had seven strikeouts and contributed an RBI single while improving to 3-0 in that standout season.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Jimenez most recently pitched in the majors with the Baltimore Orioles in 2017, when he went 6-11 with a 6.81 ERA in 31 appearances (25 starts). He spent four seasons with the Orioles.

During a 12-year career in the majors, which included a stop with the Cleveland Indians (2011-13), Jimenez has gone 114-117 with one save and a 4.34 ERA and 1,720 strikeouts over 329 appearances (315 starts).
