Reward increases to $55K for unsolved San Diego death

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — After a Grossmont College student was found dead on a sidewalk in 2019, San Diego County Crime Stoppers and the San Diego Police Department are still seeking the public’s help.

Last week, Governor Gavin Newsom announced a reward of $50,000 in the case of 22-year-old Gregory Ruffin, who was fatally shot near an apartment complex in San Diego on Feb. 24, 2019.

Crime Stoppers and the man’s family have now offered an additional $5,000 for any information leading to an arrest and conviction in this case, according to a release Wednesday, raising the total reward to $55,000.

According to previous reports, authorities said officers found Ruffin Jr. lying on the sidewalk in the 300 block of 47th Street in San Diego around 11:11 p.m. on Feb. 24, 2019. Efforts to save his life were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The San Diego Police Department’s Media Services Unit previously made a video about the case, which can be viewed on YouTube.

Gov. Newsom is also offering a $50,000 reward in the case of Lamontee Stevenson, a 19-year-old U.S. Navy sailor who was fatally shot at a party in San Diego in August 2019, as well as two other unsolved cases in Costa Mesa and Santa Ana.
