Swimming: Schooling adjusting to new realities after Singapore return

Much has changed for Joseph Schooling since the 2016 Rio Games, where he beat American great Michael Phelps in the 100 meters butterfly final to become Singapore's first Olympic gold medalist. Returning to the city-state from his Texas base earlier this year, the 24-year-old has swapped his carefree college days for living back at home with his parents, a huge transition that he says he is still trying to adjust to.

Six-time Olympic gold medallist Ryan Lochte will return to competition following a 14-month doping ban at next week's Phillips 66 National Championships in Palo Alto, California, USA Swimming said on Thursday. Lochte, who was banned for taking an intravenous infusion, has been entered in six events at the July 31-Aug. 4 meet.

American Creamer rises to the top at Evian Championship

Paula Creamer carded a bogey-free seven-under-par 64 to surge to the top of the leaderboard after the opening round at the Evian Championship in France on Thursday. With temperatures soaring up to 36 degrees Celsius (96.8°F) at the Evian Resort Golf Club, Creamer made a brilliant start to make the turn at 31 before grabbing the lead with her seventh birdie on the par-five 18th.

MLB notebook: Five-time All-Star Tulowitzki retires

Five-time All-Star Troy Tulowitzki announced his retirement on Thursday after injuries again derailed another season. Tulowitzki, 34, was able to play in just five games for the New York Yankees due to a calf injury. He went 2 for 11 with a homer and last played on April 3. He also missed all of last season and the final two-plus months of the 2017 season with a heel injury while with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Athletics: Felix advances in first race in 13 months on time qualifier

A humble Allyson Felix returned to racing for the first time in 13 months on Thursday and made the semi-finals of the 400 meters on a time qualifier at the U.S. national championships. The 33-year-old multiple Olympic and world champion is on the comeback trail after giving birth to daughter Camryn in November through an emergency caesarean section, 32 weeks into her pregnancy

WTA roundup: Bertens rolls into Palmero quarters

Top-seeded Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands cruised into the quarter-finals of the Palermo (Italy) Ladies Open, routing Serbia's Aleksandra Krunic 6-3, 6-1 in the second round Thursday. In her first-round match, Bertens dropped just one game against Georgia's Ekaterine Gorgodze. Against Krunic, Bertens came through in the big moments, converting all three of her break points and saving three of Krunic's four break chances.

Fatigued Djokovic withdraws from Montreal event

Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from next month's Rogers Cup in Montreal in order to get more rest before opening his hard court season, the world number one said on Thursday. Djokovic, a four-times champion in Canada, said he needs more time to recover after a physically demanding run at Wimbledon, where he beat Swiss Roger Federer in a five-set final to secure his 16th Grand Slam title.

WBC seeks information on Whyte dope test reports

The World Boxing Council (WBC) said on Thursday it had asked Britain's governing body for information after media reported that heavyweight Dillian Whyte failed a dope test before fighting Colombian Oscar Rivas in London last weekend. Whyte won the fight on a unanimous points decision at the O2 Arena, making him a mandatory challenger for WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.

ATP roundup: Fritz avoids Isner's fate, advances at Atlanta
