Return to Nature owners set to be arraigned in June

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — At a court hearing on Thursday, March 21, potential October trials were discussed for Jon and Carie Hallford, and the judge pushed both of their arraignments to June 6 at 9 a.m.

The Hallfords are facing charges related to nearly 200 bodies that were found improperly stored at the Return to Nature funeral home in Penrose.

During Thursday’s hearing, both defense councils and the prosecution agreed the trials could take roughly four weeks. There has not been a decision on whether or not the trials will be combined, but scheduling for the trials is reserved, but not set for October.

Both defense councils also asked to push the arraignment or a formal reading of the charges to June while they prepare their cases.

The defense for Carie Hallford also explained the reason why a previous sobriety monitoring for Carie was reported as being missed but elaborated on why that wasn’t the case.

The defense told the court that Carie signed in for the scheduled UA on March 4, but was told not to take it that day as the UA agency worked to schedule Carie more consistently with the court’s order. The defense added that Carie did comply with the conditions of her bail, and the judge agreed and took no further action.
