Retail Properties of America appoints AvalonBay Communities CFO Sargeant as a board member

OAK BROOK, Ill. (AP) -- Retail Properties of America Inc. has named the Chief Financial Officer of AvalonBay Communities, Thomas Sargeant, to its board of directors.

The addition expands the board to nine members.

Sargeant was also appointed to the audit committee, the real estate investment trust said Friday.

Retail Properties of America, which went public in April 2012, owns and runs shopping centers in 35 states. The company is based in Oak Brook, Ill.
