New restaurant opens in place of closed Blue Heron in Los Osos. What’s on the menu?

Mirazur Restaurant, a brand new eatery serving up “French-leaning” European cuisine, opened in place of the popular Blue Heron restaurant in Los Osos this month.

The new restaurant, co-owned by Marco Lucatero and Alejandro Flores, is seeking to bring an “upscale casual” vibe to the Los Osos restaurant scene, its owners recently told The Tribune.

“I think it was time to open a second location and just give it a little twist,” Lucatero said. “ I am keeping the same consistency from farm-to-table, but also doing a little bit more of an upscale casual vibe and just doing something a little different.”

Lucatero said he has always worked in the restaurant industry — he even currently owns Lunada Garden Bistro in Cayucos. He didn’t originally have plans to open another restaurant, however, but then something serendipitous happened.

After the passing of Bill Lee, the former owner of the Blue Heron, the space at 1365 2nd St. was sold to a new landlord.

That landlord ate at Lunada one day, and was so impressed with the menu he on the spot asked Lucatero if he would be interested in opening a new restaurant in Los Osos.

Out of that conversation, Mirazur Restaurant was born.

“I’m just so excited to get to know the community here and get to know the neighboring businesses,” said Flores, who works on the managerial side of the restaurant.

How Mirazur is aiming to cultivate a community

While Flores, Lucatero and the team have been working on renovations, countless community members have stopped by to ask about the food and their plans for the restaurant.

According to Flores, the Blue Heron was beloved by its community and because of that, there is a lot of nostalgia at the spot.

“When this place closed, people felt like something was taken from the community,” Flores said. “Everybody sounds very excited to come back and socialize.”

In an interview with The Tribune, Flores and Lucatero both said they wanted to bring the same sense to Los Osos that Lee and the team at the Blue Heron cultivated.

“We want to be very community-oriented for sure,” Lucatero said.

Even the name Mirazur has special meaning: Mirazur means “to look at the blue” in Spanish — an homage to the former restaurant and the ocean nearby.

What’s on the menu at Mirazur?

Mirazur will serve wine, beer and European cuisine. It will also feature an open kitchen concept so people can see the food being prepared.

Ismael Giles, a longtime chef at Lunada and part owner of Mirazur, will be the executive chef for the restaurant.

Customers can also expect to be treated to freshly-baked pastries, breads and desserts courtesy of Florencia Breda, a Michelin-star chef and owner of Breda Pasticceria and Chocolateria.

The new restaurant has been a source of excitement, Flores said.

“After owning businesses for a long time, I feel like I needed this excitement again with something new in my hands and working on making it nice for the community,” Flores said. “We feel like the community needs something like this.”
