Restaurant, office proposed near WellSpan Park in York

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – An empty lot near WellSpan Park here is set to find new life.

Plans were announced Thursday for Ballpark Commons, a 20,000 square foot mixed-use building at George and Arch Streets, which developers say will complete their vision for a ballpark district.

“This redevelopment of Ballpark Commons is a significant milestone in enhancing the gateway to Downtown York via George St.,” said Oliver Hoar, chair of the York County Industrial Development Authority (YCIDA). “Achieving this milestone has taken years of perseverance and patience by the YCIDA to acquire, demolish, and now approach rebuild, and we look forward to working with our partners in bringing this new project into the York community.”

YCIDA said development rights for the property were awarded to the York Professional Baseball Club and Royal Square Development and Construction.

When it opens, the building will operate in conjunction with WellSpan Park to “create a vibrant pre- and post-game environment.”

They hope to break ground next year, and plan to have a restaurant in the lower level and offices on the second floor.

The site was previously occupied by several row homes which were razed in last year.
