Happy Friday, Daily Briefing fans. This is Keith Pandolfi, food and dining writer for The Enquirer.

Today I wrote about my first impressions of The Davidson, an American brasserie that opened recently on Fountain Square. The restaurant takes the space formerly occupied by the ill-fated Royce, which shuttered after just a few months in business. My gut feeling is that The Davidson will have a much longer, and much better run.

Owned and operated by Thunderdome Restaurant Group – the same team behind such local favorites as Pepp & Dolores, The Eagle and Bakersfield – The Davidson seems poised to become a new go-to restaurant for after-work happy hours, date nights and family celebrations (think high school graduation). The food is promising, too, especially the presentation of a certain nightshade vegetable that I urge you to experience for yourself.
