Restaurant chain Chuy's 1Q sales metric up 2.3 pct

Mexican restaurant chain Chuy's key sales metric rises 2.3 percent in 1Q as customers pay more

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Chuy's Holdings Inc., which runs a chain of Mexican restaurants, said Monday that revenue at stores open at least 18 months increased 2.3 percent in the first quarter as customers spent more.

The measure is an important measure of a retailer's health because it excludes revenue at stores that recently opened or closed.

The Austin, Texas, company said average check size grew 2.2 percent, while the number of average weekly customers at its restaurants grew 0.1 percent.

Total sales for the quarter rose 25 percent to $46.7 million.

Chuy's, which has 41 restaurants in eight states, expects to release its full first-quarter results during the week of May 6.
