Residents want simpler recycling options - survey
Residents in part of Leicestershire would prefer to have two wheelie bins rather than using a mix of recycling containers, a survey has found.
Recycling waste in North West Leicestershire is currently collected using a combination of bags, boxes and a bin.
But this is under review and the district council asked residents for their views on three potential options going forward.
The survey received 19,507 responses - 61% of which were in favour of using just two wheelie bins.
The consultation took place as part of a review which the councils says will see the biggest changes ever made to its waste collections.
It is described by the authority as the first step in a wider review of the recycling service.
It will now look at the different options in more detail and will compile a report for senior councillors.
The council said it would also consider government advice "where all recycling could be collected in one wheelie bin".
"Whatever we decide upon, it's likely that it will take a couple of years to start implementing the change due to contracts with partners, and the purchasing of new vehicles and containers," said councillor Michael Wyatt, deputy leader and portfolio holder for communities and climate change.
