Residents safe after fire destroys their Ellettsville home

A family lost their home, two vehicles and a pet dog in a fire in Ellettsville Tuesday night.

Firefighters responded at 8:23 p.m. to a fully involved residential fire in the 6000 block of West McNeely Street. Ellettsville Fire Department and Monroe Fire Protection District personnel used water from a nearby hydrant and closed off the road for about three hours while extinguishing the blaze.

No one was injured. Red Cross volunteers were at the scene to assist the residents with immediate needs.

In a Facebook post, the woman who lived with her family in the house thanked everyone who's reached out to help in the aftermath of the fire.

"We are all safe, just sad and overwhelmed with the loss of everything but we have our lives and I am so thankful for that and everyone’s safety," she wrote.

She said the family is seeking rental housing so they can start accepting clothing, furniture and other items people are asking to donate. Their van and truck were destroyed in the fire as well.

Clothing donations for the family of six are being accepted at the Richland-Bean Blossom Health Center in Ellettsville. Sizes are: men’s 2XL and pants 40x30; women’s L and XL, size 12, 14 and 16; girl’s sizes 10, 12 and 14 and boy’s size 8-10.

Donations may be brought to the health care facility and employees will deliver them to the family.
