Residents near St. Paul/Maplewood border encouraged to boil their water through Tuesday afternoon

Residents living in a section of Maplewood and the northeastern corner of St. Paul are being encouraged to boil their water through at least Tuesday afternoon as a result of a power failure at a St. Paul Regional Water Services pump station.

Officials with the water utility issued a statement on Monday afternoon indicating that a loss of water pressure at the Beebe Road pump station in Maplewood made contamination in the distribution system possible but unlikely. Still, as a standard precaution, customers are being asked to boil their water for three minutes before using it for cooking, drinking or brushing their teeth, or they can use bottled water.

“There is no evidence that contamination has entered the distribution system at this time,” reads a statement from the utility.

The statement, issued shortly before 3 p.m., indicated that staff were working to restore system pressure and conducting water quality testing.

The areas affected by the loss of water pressure include:

  • To the north, Holloway Ave. East, between Seventh Ave. E. and Division St./Halloway Ave E.

  • To the east, Geneva Ave. N. between Conway Ave. E. and Halloway Ave. E./Division St.

  • To the south, Conway Ave. E. between Carlton St. N. and Geneva Ave. N. and Ave. R.

  • To the west, Ruth St. N. between Seventh Ave. E and Larpenteur Ave. E.; Winthrop St. N. between Larpenteur Ave. E. and Hoyt Ave. E.; Idaho Ave. E. between Furness Parkway and Winthrop St. N.; McKnight Rd. N. between Ivy Ave. E. and Margaret St.

“We are dedicated to providing safe water for our customers and are taking this step out of an abundance of caution,” said Patrick Shea, general manager of St. Paul Regional Water, in a written statement. “Employees of Saint Paul Regional Water Services are working to resolve the problem.”
