Ukrainians with residence permits and employment in Germany can stay in the country, including military-age men, said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in an interview with DW on May 11.

"The legal status ensures residence. Employment secures it," Scholz said at an RND newspaper group event, encouraging Ukrainians in Germany to seek jobs.

"We hope those from Ukraine will work when able. Many are, but hundreds of thousands are still needed in the labor market."

On April 23, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry temporarily halted services for military-age men in diplomatic missions, except for return documents. They can now only apply for passports within Ukraine.

The Ministry later termed this a temporary measure, stating, "After the new mobilization law takes effect on May 18, consular services will resume, adjusting to the law's provisions."
