Republican National Committee Fires Staff After Trump Takeover

(Bloomberg) -- The Republican National Committee fired more than 60 staffers on Monday, days after Donald Trump, the party’s presumptive nominee, handpicked the organization’s leadership, according to people familiar with the matter.

On Friday, the RNC voted to install North Carolina Republican Committee Chair Michael Whatley and the ex-president’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump, as co-chairs. Chris LaCivita – a senior Trump aide – is splitting time between advising the presidential campaign and as the committee’s chief operating officer.

The firings were earlier reported by Politico.

The dismissals were across the data, communications and political teams, according to the people, who asked not to be named discussing internal matters.

The new leadership essentially fuses the RNC with the Trump campaign. The two organizations are expected to act interchangeably for the duration of the general election. Trump had publicly lobbied for former RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel to step down as the committee dealt with fundraising problems and Republicans endured a series of lackluster election results.
