Reports Of Whoopi Goldberg Exiting ‘The View’ Were Just Premature, She Tells Wendy Williams

Reports in the spring that Whoopi Goldberg was leaving The View were just one season premature, she revealed today on The Wendy Williams Show. This season likely will be her last on the daytime chatfest, she said, explaining she would “probably not” renew next season. In May it was revealed Goldberg was not leaving but instead signing a new contract for one season.

“I have to do it, baby, because I have to go and grow,” Goldberg said of thoughts on exiting after this season. “I got stuff to do. I got movies I need to direct.I got books I got to finish.”

Added The View’s Den Mom, who first appeared on the show in 2005: “This was great and I love doing it, but it’s been awhile and they’re in their 20th season. They did this without me.”

In August, The View announced Sara Haines had joined as new co-host of show, alongside Goldberg, Joy Behar, Candace Cameron Bure, Paula Faris and Raven-Symoné, all of whom returned this season. It marked one of the least dramatic season-to-season panelist sweep-outs of the topical daytime show’s past few seasons.
