Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri will leave the Serie A club, Italian media reported on Tuesday.

The 65-year-old Italian has coached the ninth-placed team since 2021 and led them into the Champions League as Serie A runners-up last term.

His deal was due to run until 2025 but last week's Champions League last 16 defeat by Bayern Munich came amid three Serie A defeats in a row - including Monday's 2-1 home defeat by Udinese.

Former Lazio striker and 2014 Germany world champion Miroslav Klose is in the running as a possible successor, reports added.

Klose ended his playing career at Lazio in 2016 after spells at Kaiserslautern, Bremen and Bayern.

His only stint as head coach of a senior team was an unsuccessful one at Austrian club SCR Altach.
