Reports: Redskins to allow LT Williams to seek trade
Seven-time Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams has been granted permission to seek a trade by the Washington Redskins, multiple media outlets reported Thursday.
Williams was named to the Pro Bowl from 2012-18 before he elected to sit out all of last season. Williams cited issues with the Redskins' medical staff for doing so following what he perceived was a misdiagnosis of a cancerous tumor in his head.
Williams, 31, said he would have reported last season had the Redskins guaranteed the final two years of his five-year, $68 million contract extension. He has one year remaining worth $12.5 million on the pact.
Williams said in October that he had "no trust" with the organization, specifically then-team president Bruce Allen and the athletic trainers.
Williams eventually reported to the team to ensure his contract did not toll, but he was placed on the non-football injury list and did not play.
Allen and the training staff have since departed as part of a restructuring that included the hiring of coach Ron Rivera, formerly the Carolina Panthers head coach.
