Reports: Michelle Williams, musician Phil Elverum split after less than a year of marriage

Oscar-nominated actress Michelle Williams and musician Phil Elverum have separated after less than a year of marriage, according to multiple reports.

Oscar-nominated actress Michelle Williams and her husband, singer-songwriter Phil Elverum, have split, according to multiple news reports.

People, The Hollywood Reporter and the Los Angeles Times reported Friday that the couple, who married last summer, separated earlier this year.

People's unnamed source said the split was "amicable … and they remain friends," and THR, which also described the situation as amicable, cited a source saying the split occurred toward the beginning of the year.

Williams, 38, who has received four Oscar nominations, is now playing Tony-winning actress and dancer Gwen Verdon in the FX miniseries, "Fosse/Verdon." Elverum, 40, performs under the name Mount Eerie.

According to a September Vanity Fair cover story, Williams and Elverum, who met through a mutual friend, married last summer in a secret ceremony in the Adirondacks that was attended by just a few friends and their two daughters.

Each has been raising a daughter after the death of a partner. Williams has a daughter, Matilda, now 13, with Heath Ledger, who died in 2008. Elverum's daughter was just 18 months old when his wife, Genevieve Castree, died in 2016, a little over a year after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
