Miami WR Ahmmon Richards out for rest of season
It looks like Miami could be without another prominent offensive player against Clemson in the ACC title game.
After multiple outlets reported Wednesday that receiver Ahmmon Richards was carted off the field during practice with an unspecified injury, the program announced Richards will miss the rest of the season. Richards suffered a “meniscus injury in his left knee,” Miami said in a news release. He will have surgery this week.
Richards, a sophomore, has dealt with a variety of injuries throughout the year but is still third on the team with 24 catches for 439 yards and three touchdowns. As a true freshman in 2016, Richards caught 49 passes for 934 yards and three scores. His 934 receiving yards broke a program record set by Michael Irvin.
Richards’ injury comes just two days after the program announced tight end Christopher Herndon would miss the rest of the year after suffering a knee injury in the loss to Pittsburgh on Friday. Herndon, a senior, is second on the team with 40 catches for 477 yards and four scores.
The loss to Pitt moved the Hurricanes down five spots to No. 7 in Tuesday night’s College Football Playoff rankings. With a win over No. 1 Clemson in the ACC title game, Miami would likely move back into the top four.
