Report: Romney Camp Pays Journey $500,000 for Convention Concert

The Romney campaign paid the 1980s rock group Journey $500,000 to perform at the Republican convention on Thursday, TMZ reports. The campaign, however, disputed the accuracy of the story, reports BuzzFeed.

The band will play its 90-minute set at a private fundraising event called the Republican Creative Coalition Gala, which will take place the Pavilion at Liberty Plaza, next door to the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

The band insists that it is not making a political statement by playing the show.

TMZ reports that famed White House crasher Michaele Salahi will be on hand to support her boyfriend, Journey guitarist Neal Schon.

When asked if the story was true, a campaign spokesperson simply said, "No." They said that although Journey is performing, the campaign is no sponsoring the event.
