Report: Rams trading All-Pro Robert Quinn to Dolphins

Another major NFL trade: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Friday that the Los Angeles Rams are trading All-Pro pass-rusher Robert Quinn to the Miami Dolphins.

Peter Schrager of NFL Network tweeted that the Dolphins are getting Quinn and the Rams’ sixth-round pick, and Los Angeles is getting Miami’s fourth- and sixth-round picks this year.

The deal will not be finalized until March 14, the first day of the new league year.

Quinn, the 14th overall pick in the 2011 draft, is heading into the third year of a four-year, $57 million contract he signed with the Rams in 2016.

With the Dolphins, he’ll be on the defensive line with Cameron Wake and Ndamukong Suh, giving Miami a boost to an already-strong group.

The 27-year-old Quinn played in 15 games with 14 starts last year, and recorded 8.5 sacks for one of the best-sacking units in the league (48.0 for the Rams). He also had 32 total tackles, 12 quarterback hits and two forced fumbles.

Quinn had a fantastic season in 2013, recording 19 sacks, 34 quarterback hits and seven forced fumbles; that season he was named All-Pro and to the Pro Bowl. He was also named to the Pro Bowl in 2014.

He had injury issues in 2015 and 2016, leading to a decline in production.

This is the latest occurrence of a high-profile NFL player being traded: during Super Bowl week, the Kansas City Chiefs stunned many by sending Alex Smith to Washington, and last week, the Chiefs traded cornerback Marcus Peters to the Rams.

On Thursday, the Dolphins reportedly gave receiver Jarvis Landry and his agents permission to seek a trade; 10 days ago, Miami designated Landry as its franchise player for this year.
