Report: Nationals to call up top prospect Kieboom

The Washington Nationals expect to call up top prospect Carter Kieboom before Friday's series opener against the San Diego Padres, according to a report from the Washington Post.

Kieboom, 21, is hitting .379 with three home runs and 18 RBIs in 66 at-bats with Triple-A Fresno. He is widely regarded as a top-20 prospect in the majors.

The highly touted infielder most recently played second base in the minors but likely will play shortstop during his call-up, helping to fill the void created when Trea Turner broke his right index finger. The Nationals also are playing without third baseman Anthony Rendon, who has a left elbow contusion.

Washington selected Kieboom in the first round (No. 28 overall) in 2016 out of Walton High School in Marietta, Ga. He has clubbed 32 homers with 147 RBIs during 238 games in the minor leagues.
