MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WFRV) – After trading away Corbin Burnes, many were already questioning the Brewers’ plan to replace the ace and now they have another obstacle to overcome as one star pitcher is expected to miss the next three months of action due to injury.

As first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan, star closer Devin Williams is expected to around the next three months while he recovers from two stress fractures in his back.

Passan adds that Williams visited with a specialist on Wednesday who confirmed the fractures in his back and says that it will take an estimated 12 weeks to fully recover.

Williams took over the closer role after the Brewers made the decision to trade All-Star closer Josh Hader in 2022 and has quickly become one of the better closers across the MLB.

Last season his career-high 36 saves were good enough for 5th most across the league and his 1.53 earned run average was among the top of qualified relief pitchers.

The Brewers could potentially now potentially turn to Joel Payamps to serve as the team’s closer until Williams recovers and is able to return.
