Report: Jets' rookie Chris Herndon arrested, charged with DWI after car accident
It’s usually the smart move to get an Uber or Lyft when it’s late at night and you’ve been drinking.
When you’re an NFL rookie and you just signed a multi-year contract for $3.1 million, calling an Uber or Lyft is pretty much the only move when it’s late at night and you’ve been drinking.
New York Jets fourth-round pick Chris Herndon didn’t make that move.
Arrested, charged with driving while intoxicated
The Miami Herald is reporting that Herndon, a Georgia native who played at the University of Miami, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated early Saturday morning after a car accident in Rockaway Township, N.J.
ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini tweeted that Herndon was taken to police barracks near the crash site, where he failed a breathalyzer test. He was processed by police and later released.
According to a New Jersey State Police spokesman, Herndon was driving a Nissan Armada SUV when he hit and totaled the vehicle being driven by 76-year-old Albert Elliott at 4:45 a.m. Elliott was not seriously injured in the crash, suffering a bruised and gashed arm.
It is unknown if Herndon was injured.
Citing a source, the Herald wrote that Herndon also demolished a railroad motorcar and an attached trailer.
Jets not saying much
Cimini tweeted that the Jets “aware of the situation” with Herndon, but there was no further comment.
The 107th pick in the draft this year, Herndon could have been a Day One starter at tight end. That could still happen of course, but he hasn’t gotten off to a great start with his employer.
