Report: Former Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart to sign with Giants

The New York Giants intend to sign former Carolina Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart, ESPN reports.

The move reunites Stewart with former Panthers offensive coordinator Mike Shula, who now has the same job in New York. The Giants ranked 26th in the league in rushing last season with pending free agent Orleans Darkwa leading the team with 756 yards on 171 carries.

Stewart, 31, is the Panthers all-time leading rusher, but is coming off a season where he averaged just 3.4 yards per carry en route to 680 yards and six touchdowns.

NFL Network reports that the deal is for two years with $2.95 million guaranteed.
