Report: Despite looming consequences, Aaron Donald will not report to camp 'anytime soon'

Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald isn’t caving on his holdout anytime soon.

Donald, who has been sitting out of training camp and skipped OTAs and mandatory minicamp while waiting for a new deal, will lose an accrued season toward free agency if he doesn’t report to camp by Tuesday, which marks 30 days before the start of the regular season — meaning he would become a restricted free agent next year.

That fact, though, apparently isn’t fazing the 27-year-old. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he still has no plans to rejoin the team on Tuesday or “anytime soon.”

Donald — who was drafted in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft by the St. Louis Rams — is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and has been a cornerstone of the Rams’ defense. He was named the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2014 and the AP Defensive Player of the Year last season where he recorded 32 tackles and 11 sacks.

Donald is set to earn $6.9 million this year.

According to Rams coach Sean McVay, though, talks between Donald and the team’s front office haven’t progressed much at all.

“There really hasn’t been much progress in terms of the dialogue since camp,” McVay told USA Today on Saturday. “I know that we’re very intentional about trying to get him here, love to have him. In the meantime, like we’ve said, really appreciative of the way that guys have worked, that are here, doing a good job of finding ways to get better.”
