Report: Ausmus interviewing for Cubs' job

San Diego Padres executive Brad Ausmus was in Chicago on Friday to interview for the Cubs' managerial job, according to CBSSports.com.

The Cubs have interviewed six candidates, including Ausmus. The others are Padres executive A.J. Hinch, Padres bench coach Rick Renteria, Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Dave Martinez, former Cleveland Indians and Washington Nationals manager Manny Acta and former Seattle Mariners and Indians manager Eric Wedge.

Boston Red Sox bench coach Torey Lovullo is also considered a candidate but has not been interviewed yet. The Red Sox won the World Series on Wednesday.

Ausmus also interviewed with the Detroit Tigers and Nationals. The Tigers' job is still open but the Nationals hired Matt Williams.

The Mariners job is also still vacant.

Ausmus, who spent 18 seasons as a major-league catcher, has no major-league managing or coaching experience. He played for the Houston Astros, Tigers, Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers.
