Report: Abilene woman killed by police was squatter who fired shots at victim, officers

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – An Abilene woman who was killed by police during a standoff was allegedly a squatter who fired shots at not only officers but another victim as well.

This woman, who has only been publicly identified as being 44-years-old, was shot and killed following an overnight standoff at a home on the 1000 block of Grape Street that began around 9:00 p.m. Monday.

Court documents give additional insight into what led up to the standoff, stating a victim told police that the woman, who lived in a shed behind her house, pointed a gun at her and fired a round when she was letting her dog go to the bathroom outside.

The victim retreated, and the documents state that as she was running away, the woman in the shed fired another shot, which hit the main house.

According to the victim, no argument or provocation led to the woman firing shots.

Once officers arrived on scene, the documents state they told the woman to exit the shed, but she refused and barricaded herself inside with a firearm and appeared to be intoxicated.

SWAT team members then initiated a standoff, during which the documents state the woman was being belligerent toward officers.

Eventually, police say she fired shots at officers, prompting them to fire back. She was shot and killed during the gunfire.

No further information is available at this time, and the suspect’s identity is being withheld until next-of-kin is notified.
