Repeat offender caught with illegal weapon in Frayser

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 20-year-old who was arrested for the “mob-style” break-in at Busters Liquor store last year, is back in jail. This time he is facing charges after being caught with an illegal gun at an apartment complex Saturday night in Frayser.

Jaylin Triplett is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon.

According to Memphis police, around 10:50 p.m., officers were called to the Pershing Park Apartments at 3707 Pershing Park Drive regarding a weapon law violation/felony.

The security officer at the apartment complex told police he had three males with weapons detained.

He says he was saturating the apartments when he approached a vehicle, and one of the suspects, later identified as Jaylin Triplett, attempted to run.

Police say that is when the suspects were detained.

Officers asked the three suspects which one of them owned the Glock 17 that was modified with an attachment, making it fully automatic. Two of the suspects said it belonged to Triplett.

They also stated that Triplett threw the gun under the seat before jumping out of the vehicle and attempting to run.

Triplett did not deny the accusations, police say.

MPD says the gun was stolen out of Indiana while being transported to Arkansas. Triplett was charged at that time and the other two suspects were let go.

Jaylin Triplett is currently being held without bond, according to the District Attorney’s office. The office requested a probation violation warrant this morning which was issued by a judge.

Triplett’s next court appearance is set for Tuesday at 9 a.m.
