Repairs on Kharkiv TV tower postponed until ceasefire ensures safety
The repair of the Kharkiv TV tower, which was damaged by a Russian missile strike on April 22, cannot begin until the conflict has ended, Ivan Sokol, director of the Civil Protection Department of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, said in an April 23 interview with Radio Svoboda.
The evaluation and potential rebuilding of the tower will commence after the removal of the damaged equipment. "Experts will assess the possibility of rebuilding the television tower once it is safe to do so," Sokol stated.
"In my personal view, it was a deliberate tactic to intimidate the populace of Kharkiv and its neighboring settlements," he said, addressing inquiries about whether the Russians intentionally targeted the TV tower.

"Picture this: in broad daylight at 4:40 p.m. EET, a missile struck the tower, the tallest structure in Kharkiv. Of course, this caused considerable alarm among the residents."

Russia targeted the Kharkiv TV tower shortly before a scheduled conversation between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Joe Biden.
Russia aimed to disrupt communication, the Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson, Illya Yevlash, said, commenting on Russia's strike.
As of the morning of April 23, there is no digital broadcast signal in Kharkiv and its surrounding areas.
