Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rebuked Boston’s “Straight Pride” parade and its apparent lack of female participants, calling it an “‘I-Struggle-With-Masculinity’ parade.”

“For men who are allegedly so ‘proud’ of being straight, they seem to show real incompetence at attracting women to their event,” she said, retweeting footage of the march. “Seems more like a ‘I-Struggle-With-Masculinity’ parade to me.’”

In the retweeted video of the parade, which was originally posted by Boston 25 News reporter Kelly Sullivan, marchers, including few women, are seen waving American flags and carrying posters that read “Straight Lives Matter,” “Make normalcy normal again” and “Take back the rainbow.”

“Straight people are an oppressed majority,” read a statement from John Hugo, the president of the parade’s organizing group. “We will fight for the right of straights everywhere to express pride in themselves without fear of judgment and hate.”

The parade, which was held to “achieve inclusivity and spread awareness of issues impacting straights in Greater Boston and beyond,” according to the website of the parade organizers, Super Happy Fun America, clashed with counterprotestors, which resulted in nearly three dozen police arrests.

Massachusetts Rep. Ayanna Pressley thanked “allies & accomplices who stood in the gap & laid their bodies on the line” in response to the Straight Pride parade and called for supporters to donate to a bail fund for the counterdemonstrators.

Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., also called for supporters to “support the local LGBTQ community impacted by Boston’s white supremacist parade.”

Days prior to the parade, Boston Pride, which organizes the city’s LGBTQ pride march, released a statement, calling the Straight Pride march a “trolling event, designed to get a rise out of vulnerable communities.”

“It has become increasingly clear that the Straight Pride Parade is organized by a group of white supremacists and is an attempt to bait the Boston LGBTQ community, as well as racial and ethnic minority communities in Boston,” said Boston Pride, which hosts one of the largest annual celebrations of the LGBTQ community in Massachusetts, the first state to legalize same-sex marriage.

Ocasio-Cortez said she hopes the Straight Pride marchers "grow enough over the next year to support / join LGBTQ family next #Pride."
