Implying special counsel Robert Hur’s ability to be perceived as “credible” depends on it, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) attempted to get Hur to commit he wouldn’t serve in a potential Donald Trump administration, should U.S. voters send the former president back to the White House in November.

“You want to be perceived, understandably, as credible, and so I want to first see if you will pledge to not accept an appointment from Donald Trump if he is elected again as president,” Swalwell demanded of Hur in a House Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday.

“I’m not here to testify today about what will happen in the future,” Hur replied.

“Seems like an easy answer, considering what I just laid out,” Swalwell interjected.

“I’m here to talk about the report and the work that went into it,” the special counsel continued.

“But you don’t want to be associated with that guy again, do you?” the California Democrat asked.

“Congressman, I’m not here to offer any opinions about what may or may not happen in the future,” Hur repeated. “I’m here to talk about the work that went into the report, which I stand by.”
