CONCORD — Rep. Ross Berry, R-Manchester, on Wednesday became the latest representative to resign from the New Hampshire House.

Berry, who has served in the House since 2020, said he resigned because he is moving out of the district from Manchester to Weare.

“Folks, I bought a house in Weare on April 4th. I would like to start sleeping in it,” Berry tweeted Wednesday. “That's why I resigned, end of story.”

His resignation comes just a day after he presided over a controversial vote in the Election Law Committee that ended with Speaker Sherman A. Packard stripping him of his title of chairman and member of the Election Law Committee. Democrats on the committee said Berry broke House rules when he held a vote on CACR 22, a bill to enshrine New Hampshire's first in the nation primary in the state constitution.

His departure, just a couple weeks after former Rep. Tina Harley, R-Seabrook, also resigned because of a move out of her district, again narrows the tight lead Republicans hold over Democrats in the House to just five people. Now, there are 199 Republicans, 194 Democrats and two independents, plus five vacancies.
