Reno-Tahoe Airport traffic up 5th month in row

Reno-Tahoe International posts 5th straight monthly passenger gain, first time in 2 years

RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Reno-Tahoe International Airport is reporting its fifth consecutive month of rising passenger traffic thanks in large part to visiting bowlers.

Airport officials say last month's 5.6 percent increase in passenger counts over May 2012 marked the first time in two years Reno has seen five straight monthly increases.

They say the total of 1.4 million travelers through the airport through the first five months of this year is 2.3 percent ahead of last year's pace.

The United States Bowling Congress is hosting men's and women's tournaments through June both downtown and at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.

Airport officials say cargo traffic in May slipped 3.2 percent from a year ago, but the year-to-date total is up 4.8 percent for the same period in 2012.
