Reminder: NB US-131 to close Sunday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A major traffic disruption is on the horizon for drivers heading along northbound US-131 into downtown Grand Rapids.

The Michigan Department of Transportation plans to close the on-ramps from 44th Street and 36th Street to northbound US-131 around 5 p.m. Sunday.

Northbound US-131 will then have all lanes closed from northbound US-131 to Burton Street.

‘A lot of traffic to detour’: US-131 to close for repairs

During the project there will be one lane open along northbound US-131 starting at Burton and continuing through Pearl Street.

However, drivers will not be able to exit northbound US-131 at Hall Street, Martin Luther King Jr. Street or Pearl Street.

Also, drivers will not be allowed to enter northbound US-131 from Hall Street, Martin Luther King Jr. Street or Market Street.

MDOT estimates this project, with all its closures, to be in place through April 20. Then, work will switch to the southbound lanes of US-131 and bring about another round of closures.

MDOT is investing just over $6 million to improve bridges over Plaster Creek which is just south of Burton Street. MDOT will also be working on concrete joint repairs from 28th Street to Pearl Street.
