Rebekah Mendoza is San Diego’s 2024 Remarkable Women winner!
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5) — Rebekah Mendoza, San Diego’s 2024 Remarkable Women winner, is a medical social worker at VITAS Healthcare who devotes much of her time and energy caring for people in hospice care.
As the region’s winner, FOX 5 San Diego and Nexstar Media Group, Inc. presented Mendoza with a $1,000 donation to the charity of her choice: Mitchel Thorp Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to support families of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
She will also join Remarkable Women from across the country at a special event in Hollywood this weekend.
Mendoza says she finds joy in helping patients and their families celebrate life’s milestones like birthdays and anniversaries. Once a week, she also teaches a wellness class through Kaiser Permanente, is an advocate for the World Vision organization and volunteers in the local autism community, all while working toward becoming a licensed clinical social worker.
Mendoza is also a single mother of three and hopes to foster more children in the future.
Her eldest son, who has special needs, was diagnosed with cancer as a teenager and is now out of remission. It was this experience that launched Mendoza’s desire to care for others.
“I am so driven to do more, to help others and advocate for other families who have been through hardships,” Mendoza says.
