Remarkable Women of Oklahoma: And the winner is…
OKLAHOMA (KFOR) – Each week during the month of March, News 4 introduced you to the 2024 nominees for our Remarkable Women campaign. Now, it’s time to announce the winner!
After a flood of nominations, a KFOR committee had the difficult task of whittling down a very long list to just four finalists.
During the first week of March, we brought you the story of Amelia Harrison, a mother who tragically lost her five-year-old son, Liam, while on vacation. Amelia has written a guide book, created Liam’s Light Foundation, and a grief retreat to help those experiencing heartbreak find healing.
Our second nominee is Carley Dummitt. Carley has autism and is making a huge difference in the lives of others in her role with the Autism Foundation of Oklahoma.
Then came Veronica Zelada, a domestic abuse survivor, who immigrated from Guatemala in search of a better life for her children. Veronica co-owns Cafe Kacao with her son, a restaurant in Oklahoma City that has won multiple awards, including Yelp’s top brunch spot in the nation for Mother’s Day.
Our final nominee, Claire Grace, has already accomplished extensive advocacy work for people of all abilities, like her sister. At just 22-years-young, Claire has also created a non-profit organization called See Stop Start, with a free anti-bullying school curriculum.
Determining the winner was an extremely tough decision. Eventually, our committee chose Veronica Zelada to move on to the national Remarkable Women competition in California! Veronica will enjoy a free, fun-filled trip to Hollywood, where she will meet more than 100 other competitors from all over the nation. We’ll let you know how she does!
Congratulations to all of our 2024 nominees, who are all truly remarkable women!
