Remarkable Woman Amy Hooten breaking barriers, serving community
LONGVIEW, Texas (KETK) – Climbing to the top of the ranks in a field often dominated by men may be daunting, but this Remarkable Woman has made history doing just that.

Amy Hooten, Remarkable Women finalist, is Longview’s first female EMS fire chief. She coordinates and manages EMS services in Longview and serves as president of a Longview organization devoted to betterment for women and girls.
“I’ve been blessed to be the first female to move up at every rank. I’ve had some great women come before me that plowed the way in the fire service here in Longview. They’ve done a great job,” Hooten said.
Hooten also initiated a program that links different service areas and resources to provide support across East Texas.

“It’s called Greater Longview Optimal Wellness, GLOW for short, it’s a collaboration of eight partners, including the city and the county,” Hooten said. “We are working together to navigate patients to the proper resources and looking at nonmedical drivers of health, like food, transportation. We’re seeing those patients tend to use 911 services more because they don’t have access to resources.”
Her service to the community does not stop there, Hooten is also president of the Zonta Club of Longview, an organization devoted to, in their own words, “building a better world for women and girls.”
Hooten said the organization does an annual boutique of donated dresses where women and girls can try them on and leave with them for free.

Hooten credits her work ethic to the remarkable women in her life.
“I’ve been blessed to have strong, courageous women in my life, and they have just given me the tools to learn and not be scared to get your hands dirty and work and find a way to do it,” Hooten said.
Amy Hooten’s service, dedication and compassion is what makes her a truly Remarkable Woman.
