Relax! Mexicali, the iconic Bakersfield restaurant, isn’t selling property anytime soon, company COO says

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – Rumors of its demise are greatly exaggerated.

We’re appropriating the famous Mark Twain line to describe Mexicali, the downtown Bakersfield landmark that’s been serving up generous platters of Mexican food since the 1940s.

We usually don’t do stories on news events that are NOT happening, but rumors of a sale of the family’s 18th Street property along Mill Creek were so persistent, we had to go straight to the man who knows best – Chief Operations Officer Michael Guerra.

And he was adamant.

“It is not true at all,” Guerra said. “There’s no offers and we haven’t sat down with anybody to even accept an offer. It has not been sold at all. Margaritas will still be flowing.”

Guerra said he looks forward to passing along ownership to the next generation – if they’re interested.
