Registered sex offender sentenced to 15 years for receiving child pornography

Joshua E. Wood was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison without the possibility of parole on Tuesday for receiving child pornography, which was discovered on his cellphone in 2022 while he was arrested for threatening a Greene County Sheriff's Department employee.

U.S. District Judge Stephen R. Bough also ordered Wood to 10 years of supervised release after incarceration.

Authorities said Wood, 47, left 41 threatening voicemail messages on May 29 and 30, 2022, for the Greene County Sheriff's Department employee in charge of registering sex offenders. Wood is required to register as a sex offender due to a 2018 conviction for possessing child sexual abuse material.

When Wood was arrested on May 31, 2022, investigators found 107 images of child sexual abuse material, web searches for child sexual abuse material and visits to suspected child sexual abuse material sites on his phone.
